Like so many others, I made a new years resolution. I made several, but one of mine was for weightloss. The first few weeks are relatively easy but once I got back into college from winter break and the homework piled up, I found it harder to find motivation. I’m sure many of you can relate or could have at some point in your life. Chicken soup for the soul recently came out with a great book to inspire fitness and weight loss, called Shaping the New You. The book is similar to other chicken soup for the soul books, with around 100 encouraging stories, and this book tailors specifically to stories about health, fitness, dieting, etc. Some stories are written by those who have always struggled with weight. Others are for athletic people. Some are written by women and others by men. Most everyone who has ever tried to get fit or lose weight could relate to at least a few of the stories in this book. I don’t consider myself to be ‘one of those weight loss people’ or a person who enjoys exercise and fitness. Yet, I found that the stories still touched my heart even if I couldn’t relate to the person telling the story. The book gave me a deeper appreciation of the pain that many overweight people go through, and have went through since early childhood. I’ve always known that they can be treated poorly, but it’s really sad to listen to some of the individual stories from real people. Overall I really enjoyed the book!
