I love to sew and make various handmade items. Although I really enjoy sewing, I haven’t had anyone in my life who was really into sewing who could teach me much, beyond the basics of threading the machine. The rest I have taught myself. I usually search the internet for free sewing tutorials. However, this usually don’t include patterns which can make things difficult. I heard of c&t publishing from a blog that I follow, and went to their website to check it out. I was amazed at their selection of craft books for sewing, quilting and more. They have books just for kids learning to sew, all the way up to pro.

When I learned that I could review a book for c&t publishing, I had a hard time deciding which one I wanted to try out. One that interested me was the book shown at the left, which is 101 fabulous fat-quarter bags. I thought this would be great for me because I’ve tried several times to make different totes and purses, and only about half of them have been successful. I think I’ll have to buy this book sometime in the future. There were several other books that interested me too, including quilting books for beginners. I haven’t tried quilting yet but it’s something that interests me, so i’d love some of their beginners books on that too. For those not into sewing, they also have other crafts such as needle felting, paper crafts and others. I knew that I had to decide on one book though, and decided on Quilts, Bibs, Blankies…oh my! I thought this would be a great fit for me because I have a nehew due in August and I’ve been wanting to make stuff for him. book is in the beginner section so I thought it shouldn’t be above my ability level. The book has various projects, including several quilts, bibs, blankies and wall hangings to choose from. It features several ‘themes’ such as a sheep theme, so that you can make a matching quilt, bib, blankie and wall hanging for that theme. Or you can pick and choose from which designs you prefer.

I haven’t found time to try any of these projects, but I have thoroughly looked over all the instructions and I don’t see where any issues should come up for me. The book is very good at explaining which steps to take when, and provides patterns for all of the projects necessary. Overall I think it’s a great book for beginners, or even those who aren’t beginners but are looking to make adorable baby items.
